Reduce pimple redness?

I got a few zits on my forehead. I tried the toothpaste trick to reduce the size and the redness. They aren't as swollen now, but the toothpaste definitely irritated my skin leaving the pimples redder than before! I need some home remedies that won't empty my wallet... Any suggestions?
