How do I become righteous?

Well first off, I am a christian and I have made plenty of mistakes throughout my lifetime but I want to become perfect and do right by god. First off I really don't have a lot of friends, I have a few great friends. I haven't slept that well because brother was asking me what is the illuminati and the new world order because he was looking at some video with tupac and other people talking about it. so I did my research yesterday and all of the sudden I'm starting to feel uncomfortable when I read the information and saw it on youtube. So my question is how do I become righteous and a better person? Thanks.
